Extremity Chiropractic Care

When you think of chiropractic adjustment, you most likely think of treatments for neck and back pain. But the spinal joints aren't the only ones that can fall out of alignment -- and they're not the only ones we treat at David Chiropractic. Our Sebastian chiropractor, Dr. Michael David, can also treat the extremity joints. Our all-natural methods allow you to free yourself from elbow, wrist, knee or ankle pain without becoming dependent on painkillers or risking major surgery.

Common Extremity Joint Issues

Your body hosts many kinds of joints, from relatively limited "hinge" joints to complex ball-and-socket joints that can move in practically all directions. But these joints all have one thing in common -- they contain moving parts that must interact smoothly and efficiently for pain-free motion. Unfortunately, a variety of conditions and injuries can interfere with this precise operation. When the problems involve the joints in your limbs, you may experience:

  • Elbow pain - Tendinitis is a common cause of elbow pain. Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow are two well-known examples of this kind of pain and stiffness. Bursitis, an inflammation of the friction-reducing sacs in the elbow joint, can also cause inflammatory pain.
  • Wrist pain - Occupational wrist pain is often associated with carpal tunnel syndrome. This problem occurs when inflamed tissues near the median nerve begin to pinch this nerve, which runs through the wrist and into the hand.
  • Knee pain - As weight-bearing joints, the knees are vulnerable to both overuse injuries (such as runner's knee) and chronic degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis. Excess weight and musculoskeletal alignment errors can make knee pain worse.
  • Ankle pain -  Like the knee, the ankle is a weight-bearing joint. It is subject to sprains, strains, nerve impingement (tarsal tunnel syndrome) and arthritis.

Issues that alter the alignment of internal joint components can cause progressive pain and stiffness in any of your extremities.

Non-Invasive Healing Techniques From Our Sebastian Chiropractor

Our Sebastian chiropractor will examine the painful extremity joint in question to look for joint damage or signs of chronic inflammation. Acute injuries may require rest, ice, elevation and compression. A joint misalignment can then be treated through extremity chiropractic care. These gentle, precise adjustments can correct small but meaningful deviations in joint position. We also use physiotherapy and rehabilitative exercises to get painful joints feeling and functioning as they should.
