Neck Pain

David Chiropractic Offers Help For Neck Pain

Many people experience neck pain at some time in their lives. Simple strains, sprains, and unusual movements can lead to damage in the upper spine and muscles of the neck and shoulders. In most cases, rest and over-the-counter pain relievers will help to heal injuries to the neck, but for ongoing pain, you require professional treatment to resolve the misalignment and tissue damage that accompanies this type of pain. Dr. Michael David can provide experienced chiropractic care for neck pain and other issues that involve the back and upper spine.

Causes of Neck Pain

The neck, often referred to as the cervical spine, is composed of seven small vertebrae and a complex structure of muscles, tendons, and ligaments that allow flexibility and movement in a number of directions. These structures can be easily injured by sudden movements during athletic activities, work tasks, auto accidents or simply from sleeping in the wrong position. The upper spine can also be affected by progressive degeneration that occurs during aging.

Disc disease and stenosis can also damage the delicate structures of the upper neck, leading to pain, loss of flexibility and impairment of normal movement. Poor posture and repetitive motions can also cause damage to the neck and upper spine. Whiplash, an injury that occurs from rapid movement of the head forward and then backward, such as during automobile accidents, is a common source of ongoing neck discomfort. The constant peering at computer screens, during which the individual holds the head in one position throughout the day, can cause a continuous ache in the neck and shoulder, as well as loss of flexibility.

Diagnosing the Sources of Neck Pain

A good diagnosis helps to isolate structural problems so that specific treatment can be applied for the greatest effect. Dr. David may order x-rays, MRI or CT scan to determine the source of the problem. He can then design an individualized care plan to resolve specific physical issues.

Chiropractic Treatment for Neck Pain

Conventional treatment for neck pain often involves the use of strong painkillers, steroid injections or muscle relaxants. Although these methods often provide temporary relief of pain, they may not resolve the underlying problems in the neck and upper spine. Chiropractors offer a non-invasive and drug-free method of dealing with neck pain that can help relieve pain and restore normal function. Manual adjustment, massage, corrective exercise and soft tissue treatments can help resolve neck pain problems.
